What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a completely natural state of mind. We go in and out of hypnosis several times a day. Any time we are more in tuned with our inside dialogue and concentration, rather than outside stimuli, we are in hypnosis or trance. Examples of this are; daydreaming, watching TV or reading a book when we completely dissociate from the outside world and deeply concentrate.
How many times have you driven to your destination, reached it and realized that you really were not mindful of the actual drive since you were so deeply in your thoughts? Or you were so involved in a movie you were watching that you forgot about the outside world and where you are. That's hypnosis or a trance state. Hypnosis is a deep relaxation of the mind and the body, combined with a heightened sense of concentration on the inside, rather than outside stimuli. Everyone of average mental ability is able to enter hypnosis if they are willing.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a very effective complementary healing art, in which the hypnotherapist helps the client achieve a deep level of relaxation, thereby accessing the sub-conscious mind and giving positive suggestions, in order to change old habits, patterns or beliefs that no longer serve the client. This in turn helps the client achieve their desired outcome quickly and effortlessly.
Explanation of Common Misconceptions:
Hypnotherapy is not the same as Stage Hypnosis, where people agree to do silly things when up on the stage.
The client is neither sleep nor unconscious.
There has never been a case when someone did not come out of hypnosis.
The client is always completely aware of everything and most importantly always in control.
The hypnotherapist can never make the client do or say anything he/she does not want to.
The client will only tell the therapist what he/she feels comfortable revealing.
The client can even lie under hypnosis, therefore there is no chance that one will reveal secrets or anything he/she is uncomfortable talking about.
What is Guided Imagery?
Guided Imagery is a very powerful and effective tool in healing the mind, in order to heal the body. It is usually presented through pre-recorded audio or a qualified practitioner leading the client through the imagery.
Imagery involves the use of the imagination for healing. Different scenarios are imagined while all the senses (sight, sound, taste, smell and kinesthetic bodily sensations) are used in order to direct the client's mind towards healing and/or specific life goals.
It is known that the brain does not know the difference between an experience that is real or imagined. It processes both types of information in the same way and they can both produce the same psychological and physiological responses in the body. Therefore when desired outcomes are imagined with the help of a practitioner, tremendous changes can be experienced by the client.
